The FOF Report
Article by Mike (jax)

Rich Eisen- I am joined with Future hall of famer Rod Woodson.

Rich - We have finished 12 weeks of the season. We need to find out who are Contenders and who are the pretenders. Rod I am going to give you a Team. You tell me if they are a pretender or a contender.

Rod - Ok lets do it.

Rich - Lets start with Cleveland.

RodNo only am I going to say contender Rich, I think they have a solid chance at winning the division.

Rich Come-on Rod, they are down two games with 4 to play.

RodRich down the stretch they play New York (3-9), Cincinnati (0-12), and Dallas (2-9). Not exactly your top caliber teams. Then they go to Pittsburgh to possible win the North. Cleveland beat Pitt in week 5. So if they can get a game behind them before the week 17 match up, a win wins them the division.

Rich - I did not look at it like that. Could call. What about Houston?

Rod - I say Pretender. I think they are a solid team and will be able to win some down the stretch. The problem is with Cleveland having such a easy ride and In the AFC East with Jets and that team in Boston at 10 and 2, I dont see another wild card coming out of the AFC.

Rich So you are telling me I am wasting my time throwing out any more teams from the AFC.

Rod Yep.

Rich Ok who wins AFC East

Rod - I am going to have to say push.

Rich - Push is not one the available responses

Rod OK then based on their remaining schedule I will say the Jets. They dont have to play St. Louis.

Rich OK lets move over to the NFC. What do you think about Washington?

Rod This is a tough one. I think it is going to come down to their match up with Philly. Both teams are not very good vs the pass. They rank 31st and 30th in that category. Tom Brady has tailed off just a bit. This year Philly has the better passing attack, but Eli is going to miss at least two weeks. I think Philly is just to banged up. So I guess Contender.

Rich What ever helps you think buddy.

Rod That was a tough one Rich. I still think Philly will make the playoffs.

Rich Ok I have a easy one for ya. I think it is safe to say that there will not be a wild card team coming from the NFC North. Which team will win the division Chicago or Detroit?

Rod For the record both teams pretenders. Chicago does have the better offense by far. QB Lenny Wiggins is on pace for 4000 yards this season. Chicago does not know how long DT Amobi is going to be out. Chicago still has a much better secondary and I think they are going to win that division.

Rich What do you think about Tampa Bay?

Rod Surprisingly I am going to say Pretender. The road ahead is going to be much to difficult. RB R. Mendenhall and QB Brady Quinn are good players. There are not enough weapons in the passing game to take this team to the next level. They are a good WR away from making the jump.

Rich OK Rod one more question for you. I know this is not college football, but if the NFL had a BSC system, which two teams right now would you play for the Championship game.

Rod I would have though Maock would have given me this question not you Rich.

Rich Just hypothetically speaking.

Rod The Top three teams are The Jets, The Pats and the Steelers.

Rich What about the NFC?

Rod You said College Rich. You made the rules I am just following them. The Pats lost to both the Steelers and the Jets, So I say Steelers and Jets.

Rich So no worthy teams in the NFC.

Rod There are worthy teams. You asked me the top 2. In the NFC I would say LA.

Rich Thank you so much Rod for the insight.

Rod anytime Rich.

Rich - Next up we will have a chat with Detroits starting QB J. P. Losman and what many consider is one of the front-runners for the MVP this season
